SYRIZA - Progressive Alliance MEPs express their support to the activist journalist Julian Assange, who is in danger of being extradited to the USA with procedures that raise questions to the international public opinion.

International organizations such as Amnesty International, the Writers` Association "PEN Club" and "Reporters Without Borders" accuse the British Justice on the fact that with its tactics it effectively sentences the founder of WikiLeaks to a slow death. His seven-year detention at the Ecuadorian embassy in London and his three-year detention in a high-security prison near the British capital have led him - as acknowledged by the British Court, which did not extradite him - to a situation involving risks to his mental and physical health. The Court of Appeal has ruled his extradition to the United States with a guarantee that the American side has given; specifically that Julian Assange will not be transferred to the inhumane ADX Florence Prison in Colorado, where any contact with the outside world is practically impossible.

SYRIZA - Progressive Alliance MEPs, Dimitris Papadimoulis, Kostas Arvanitis, Alexis Georgoulis, Petros Kokkalis and Elena Kountoura, with a joint statement support the journalist, Julian Assange. The accusations were aiming to undermine his status as investigative journalist and to challenge his revelations as unreliable. SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance MEPs, strongly disagree with the European Union’s stance of silence, stating that they will stand against the attempts of the system to censor and exterminate him and they are demanding political asylum to be granted to Mr. Assange. The attack on him is an attack on the freedom of the Press and investigative journalism.

It`s finally time for his appeal to the British Supreme Court to be approved, against his extradition to the United States. SYRIZA - Progressive Alliance MEPs will always stand by all those who seek the truth.
